The somatic options are going to include drugs, electroconvulsive therapy, and other options that are going to stimulate the brain. If the patient is given an anti-depressant, then they will be given a somatic option, for example. There are also psychotherapeutic treatments. Therapy for marriages, family, or groups can fit in here, hypnotherapy, and behavior therapy techniques, like exposure therapy and relaxation therapy. For most patients, the most effective treatment will be one that can successfully merge both of these types of treatment into one. Some patients will need medication to help them manage their condition while also going through some form of therapy to help when the condition tries to show up again.
